The Aldabra Tortoise, more commonly known as the giant Seychelles tortoise originates from the islands of Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles and some small local islands nearby.

BEWARE-  the Aldabra tortoises are very fast growing and although only around 6-7 cms / 2.5-3 inches in size on hatching, they can reach up to 17 cms / 7 inches within the first 12 months of their lives!

A young maturing adult female Aldabra of around 18-20 years old is typically around 76-81 cms / 30-32 inches in length. An adult female can reach around 3ft in length and weigh up to 160kg.

A young maturing adult male Aldabra of around 24-26 years old is typically around 101-118cms / 40-44inches in length. An adult male can reach around 4ft in length and weigh a massive 250kg!

Although their growth rate slows down significantly at this stage, their growth continues for life. This species have been known to live up to 150 years or more and they are a non-hibernating species so require heat all year round.

This species is listed as Annex B and is NOT required to have an Article 10 CITES certificate to be legally sold.
