The Western ‘Dwarf’ Hermann’s tortoise originates from Western Europe. This is a hibernating breed. It is a slightly more rare kept species of tortoise within the UK due to other species being more readily available. Western Dwarf Hermann’s are within the small sized family of tortoise breeds and can live up to 50 years or more. High UV lighting is required and low humidity. On average, an adult Western Dwarf Hermann’s tortoise will grow to approximately 4-5 inches (10-13cms). However, this may vary in individuals.
This species is listed as Annex X and is not required to be microchipped or have an Article 10 CITES certificate to be legally sold.
